"Serbian Medieval Heroes" is a historical docudrama TV series that brings to viewers little-known details from Serbian medieval history and heritage. Each episode tells the story of the life and destiny of one of the greatest heroes of the Serbian Middle Ages. Through an abundance of visual material — including graphic, digital, and dramatized reconstructions — the series follows their stories, revealing the political, economic, and social circumstances, as well as other aspects of life in medieval Serbia. The production features prominent Serbian and international experts in history, archaeology, literature, and ethnology, who faced the challenging task of realistically presenting not only well-known historical facts but also the material culture and daily life of the time.
In addition to expert interviews and the main narrator’s storytelling, skillfully interwoven verses from epic folk poetry enhance the narrative. Viewers witness reconstructions of real historical events through a combination of modern animation and dramatized scenes, featuring authentic costumes and props that bring medieval heroes to life.
Remarkably, this project showcases, for the first time, several artifacts and locations significant to Serbian medieval history that have never before been captured on camera. The historical docudrama series "Serbian Heroes of the Middle Ages" was filmed across numerous locations in Serbia and abroad.
