In a small village in eastern Serbia, Mitar kills 12 people facing a total nervous breakdown, witnessed by Petar, a negotiator for the Serbian Security Information Agency (BIA), shoots himself in the head after saying out loud the word "katabaza“. This word evokes painful emotions in Petar that bottled up from the past and his son’s death. Trying to clarify the massacre motives, Petar and inspectors Tomić and Blagojević include psychologist psychologist Nataša to determine, as an expert, whether Mitar is mentally ill. On the other hand, Nataša is in a bizarre sexual relationship with a politician, and the dissolved monk Tihon is stalking her with the story that her daughter Ida is in danger. Petar conducts an independent investigation in which he discovers that the background of this massacre lies in Vlach magic (Eastern Serbian black magic). The sorceress reveals that Nataša is the key to the problem. When Ida ends up in hospital, Nataša changes her point of view and becomes open to the occult.
